Fresno Falcons News Release
FRESNO, Calif. â The Fresno Falcons gave-up three goals in a 2:56 time span of the first period and never recovered on their way to losing to the defending Kelly Cup Champion Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies, 8-3, on Tuesday at Save Mart Center in front of 2,281. The loss is the team's sixth in a row as they fall to 7-12-1 on the year.
Scoreless mid-way through the first, the Falcons had the better scoring chances during the game's first 10 minutes but were stone-walled by Atlantic City's goaltender, Jake Moreland. Then Aaron Foster, Preston Mizzi and Luke Curtin each rattled off tallies beginning at 12:53 of the first to give Atlantic City a 3-0 edge through 20 minutes.
Brad Mehalko got Fresno on the board with his fifth of the season 4:10 into the second period. But the Boardwalk Bullies responded with a power play goal while skating five-on-three at 6:28 from Mizzi and an even strength marker from Danny Eberly less than a minute later to build a 5-1 advantage. Kevin Truelson pulled the Falcons back within three with his third of the year at 10:19 of the middle frame. Any glimmer of hope Fresno had of mounting a comeback in the third, though, was ruined when Atlantic City struck for a short-handed goal in the final minute of the second from Curtin, giving the Bullies a 6-2 lead heading into the third.
Atlantic City scored twice in the final period before Fresno's Dominic Periard notched his second of the season with just over three minutes to play in the game for the final 8-3 margin.
The re-broadcast of tonight's game will be aired tomorrow, Dec. 3, at 9 p.m. on KJEO, non-cable channel 32, courtesy of the Cocola Broadcasting Companies.
The Falcons will try to snap their six-game slide when they travel to Bakersfield for a showdown with the Condors on Friday, Dec. 5. The game can be heard live on KAAT 103.1 FM beginning at 6:50 p.m. with the pre-game show.
Fresno then opens a five-game homestand on Tuesday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m. when the Alaska Aces visit Save Mart Center.
