San Diego Gulls News Release
SAN DIEGO â It's that time of the season again, and the San Diego Gulls are making sure their presence is felt throughout the community. Here's a list of some of the events the organization will be participating in and an update on the relief efforts for the San Diego wildfire victims.
So far the Gulls have sold 800 "Ice Down the Fire" T-shirts, which equates into about $7,000 in donations to the fire victims. The "Saves for San Diego" program, which ended last month, brought in more than $2,000. The "Firestorm On Ice" charity game on Nov. 22 brought in about $3,000, which brings the grand total close to $12,000.
The Blue and Orange and San Diego Harley-Davidson also collected more than 1,000 stuffed toys at its annual "Teddy Bear Toss," held Nov. 8. All of the stuffed toys were collected and given to the California Office of Traffic Safety, then distributed to underprivileged children in San Diego County.
Here are the upcoming community events the Gulls will be participating in, or have already participated in:
Dec. 1: Dan Cousineau and David Neale were both on NBC 7/39's evening news, skating with youth hockey players at Horton Square at Horton Plaza.
Dec. 2: Cousineau, Neale, Trevor Koenig, Dennis Purdie, Mark Pederson and Samy Nasreddine were all featured athletes at the annual Junior Seau Foundation's "Shop With a Jock." The event featured San Diego professional athletes shopping with an underprivileged child.
Dec. 6: Sandy and Baby Gull will be featured in the North Park Lions Holiday Parade. Gulls sales staff will also be there handing out 2-for-1 vouchers.
Dec. 8: Two players will attend an assembly at Logan Elementary School as part of the Gulls "Adopt a School" program. Both players will speak about the importance of staying in school and also discuss how the team is doing. Nasco has adopted this school and will donate 20 tickets to 10 different games this season.
Dec. 8: Billy Tibbetts and Josh Gratton will be guest speakers at JAM-Vista Hall Community SVC Program Group, delivering motivational speeches to a group of at-risk youth.
Dec. 9: Steve Martinson will be a guest speaker at the Old Pros Group meeting in Poway. The Old Pros Group focuses on providing scholarships to local athletes.
Dec. 13: Sandy and Baby Gull will be participating in the "Bikes for Kids" program, handing out toys and bicycles to underprivileged children.
Dec. 22: The Gulls will hold a Bowling Night at Sunset Bowl in Clairemont. For just $15, fans can bowl with their favorite Gulls player, participate in an auction to benefit the fire victims and win some cool prizes.
