Falcons Fall to Condors 4-2 in Game Five

Fresno, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors won their third straight game, defeating the Fresno Falcons 4-2 on Monday in front of 2,719 fans at Save Mart Center. Bakersfield takes a 3 games to 2 lead in the series, putting Fresno in a must-win situation on Thursday in game six.

For the third straight game, Bakersfield got on the board first, scoring just 17 seconds into the first period. Andrew Ianiero gathered in a loose puck in the left-wing circle of the Fresno zone, and sent a shot to the front of the net which deflected off of the skate of Falcons' goaltender Scott Stirling and rolled into the net.

The Falcons pulled even with a power-play tally at 9:34. Luke Curtin moved the puck to Cory Murphy in the high slot, and he sent a wrist shot to the net that beat Rejean Beauchemin for his third goal of the series.

The game remained tied until the latter stages of the second period when Bakersfield struck twice to take a 3-1 lead into the final 20 minutes of play. Tyler Scott gave the Condors the lead back with a power-play goal at 18:44, taking a pass from Kevin Truelson in the high slot, and wristing a shot over Stirling's glove.

Bakersfield extended the lead to two just 50 seconds later as Ianiero skated into the Fresno zone and flipped a shot over Stirling for his second goal of the night.

Fresno cut its deficit to one 6:44 into the third period. Dave Borrelli fed Stuart MacRae on the near post, and he skated in front and roofed a shot over Beauchmin's blocker pad for his second of the playoffs.

Tyler Liebel provided the Condors with an insurance goal at 16:38, beating Stirling with a wrist shot from the left-wing circle giving Bakersfield a 4-2 lead.

Bakersfield out-shot Fresno for the fourth straight game, by a margin of 42-20. The Falcons finished 1-for-6 on the power play while the Condors were 1-for-4.

Fresno travels to Bakersfield on Thursday for game six of the series. Face-off at Rabobank Arena is set for 7:00 p.m., and all of the action on 1550 Sporting News Radio starts with the Port of Subs Pre-Game Show at 6:45. The Falcons are offering a bus trip to Bakersfield for Thursday's game. The cost is $25, and includes transportation and a ticket.
