Texas Wildcatters News Release
Beaumont, TX (April 16, 2007) The Texas Wildcatters are in the Kelly Cup Playoffs for the first time in team history. The Wildcatters are facing the Gwinnett Gladiators in the first round of the playoffs in a best of five game series. The teams split the two games in Gwinnett as the Gladiators won game 1 by a score of 5-2. The 'Catters responded with a 5-2 win in game 2 to even the series.
The schedule for the South Division Semifinals between the Wildcatters (2nd Seed) and the Gwinnett Gladiators (3rd Seed) is as follows:
Game 1: Saturday, April 14, 6:35 p.m. CT @ Gwinnett (Gwinnett 5-2)
Game 2: Sunday, April 15, 3:05 p.m. CT @ Gwinnett (Texas 5-2)
Game 3: Wednesday, April 18, 7:05 p.m. CT @ Texas, Ford Arena

The Wildcatters continue the South Division Semifinals in the 2007 Kelly Cup Playoffs this week against the Gwinnett Gladiators. The series is tied at one game a piece. The 'Catters took the season series with a record of 5-3-0 against Gwinnett. The Wildcatters are a perfect 4-0-0 at home this season against Gwinnett. The Gladiators are led forward Scott Mifsud was second in the league in scoring with 94 points. Goaltender Dave Caruso started the first two games.

Saturday, April 14 at Gwinnett 5-2 Loss (Game 1)
Scott Mifsud scored two of Gwinnett's four power play goals as the Gladiators defeated the Wildcatters 5-2 in game one of the best of five South Division Semifinals in front of 3,934 at The Arena at Gwinnett Center. The Gladiators finished the regular season number one in the ECHL on the power play and started the playoffs where they left off. Gwinnett went 4 for 10 on the power play and scored four times in the opening period as Mifsud, Brandon Kaleniecki, Blue Bennefield and Jim Jackson netted goals to take a commanding 4-0 lead into the second period. The 'Catters responded and chipped away at the Gwinnett advantage as Kevin Baker scored on a breakaway and J.F David fired a shot from the point to cut the lead in half. However, Mifsud scored his second goal of the night and Gwinnett stopped the Wildcatters' momentum and went on for the 5-2 win. Matt Yeats started the game for the Wildcatters and stopped four of eight shots. Danny Taylor replaced him in the first period and made 13 saves in the game, allowing one goal. Gwinnett net minder Dave Caruso stopped 32 of 34 Wildcatters' shots for the win.
Sunday, April 15 at Gwinnett 5-2 Win (Game 2)
Captain Brandin Cote scored two goals and goaltender Danny Taylor made 34 saves as the Wildcatters earned their first playoff win, defeating the Gwinnett Gladiators 5-2 to even the best of five series at one in front of a crowd of 3,139 at The Arena at Gwinnett Center. Texas scored three power play goals and broke the game open with four goals in the second period. For the second straight game, Gwinnett scored the game's first goal as Joel Stepp netted a power play goal 9:02 into the game to make it 1-0 Gwinnett. The Wildcatters responded with five unanswered goals as Brandin Cote evened the score on the power play with 58 seconds remaining in the first period. In the second period, Texas scored four times as J.F. David scored his second goal in as many games. Daniel Sparre netted his first of the series as did Jonathan Paiement. Cote would round out the scoring for the 'Catters with his second of the game on the power play. In his first start as a Wildcatter, Danny Taylor stopped 34 of 36 shots in the win. The Wildcatters finished the game 3 for 7 on the power play while Gwinnett went 2 for 8.

Commissioner McKenna to address Hockey in Southeast Texas on Wednesday
Next season will be the 5th anniversary of the Texas Wildcatters. ECHL Commissioner Brian McKenna and Wildcatters co-owner David LeFevre will be in Beaumont on Wednesday, April 18 to address media and fans at 2:30 p.m. They will discuss plans for the 2007-08 hockey season in Southeast Texas. All media and fans are welcomed to attend the special address which will take place in the VIP Room at Ford Arena beginning at 2:30 p.m.
