Anchorage, Alaska - The Alaska Aces scored two shorthanded goals to key a 5-3 win over the Fresno Falcons in the opener of a three-game series on Wednesday at Sullivan Arena.

Fresno took a 1-0 lead just 5:15 into the first period. Kenny MacAulay's shot from the left-wing circle was deflected past goaltender Chris Beckford-Tseu by Oren Eizenman, who notched his team-leading fourth goal of the season.

The Falcons had a chance to extend the lead at 12:29 as they were awarded a penalty shot after an Aces defenseman covered a loose puck in the crease. But, Mike Ramsay had his shot stopped by Beckford-Tseu, keeping the lead at one goal.

Just 23 seconds after the penalty shot, the Aces pulled even as F.P. Guenette picked up a loose puck on the far post and sent it past goaltender Kris Mayotte.

A highlight-reel goal by Brady Leisenring at 14:21 gave the Falcons the lead back. Leisenring moved the puck through the legs of defenseman Felipe Larranaga in the right-wing circle, caught up to on the left-wing side, and slid a shot past Beckford-Tsue on the stick side.

Fresno's penalty-kill unit had a standout first period, killing off four Aces' power-play opportunities, including a pair of 5-on-3 chances.

Neither team scored in the second period, and again, Fresno's penalty kill came up big, killing off three more Alaska power plays, including another 5-on-3.

The Aces pulled even just 26 seconds into the third period. Guenette sent a cross-ice pass for Josh Soares skating down the slot, and he pushed it past Mayotte for his sixth goal of the season.

Alaska took its first lead of the night at 4:42, getting a shorthanded goal from Matt Shasby, and then went ahead on a power-play goal from Soares at 7:40.

Jarrett Konkle pulled the Falcons back within one at 8:30. Konkle took a pass at the top of the crease and lifted a shot over Beckford-Tseu's glove to cut Alaska's lead to 4-3.

Fresno had a 5-on-3 for just under a minute late in the third period, but the Aces killed it off, and just as the front end of the two-man advantage ended, Ryan Glenn sprung Bo Cheesman out of the penalty box, and he beat Mayotte to regain Alaska's two-goal advantage.

The Falcons and Aces play game two of their three-game series on Friday. Face-off at Sullivan Arena is set for 8:15 p.m. PST. Catch all of the action on 790 ESPN Radio, The Deuce, starting with the Port of Subs Pre-Game show at 8:00.
