Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that they will be hosting Marty the Marmot's First Birthday Party during their game versus the Stockton Thunder on Saturday, November 17, 2007.

One year ago, Marty was introduced as the Salmon Kings official mascot. Since that time Marty has become the Kings' biggest fan and can be seen at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre for each and every home game.

Marty has also embraced the city of Victoria and the lower island as he has been spotted at many community and charitable events lending a helping paw to support these causes.

This event allows fans the opportunity to help Marty's celebrate his first birthday in style. There is in-game and intermission entertainment planned for this special occasion.

The best present of the night will be awarded during the first intermission, when Marty and the Victoria Salmon Kings will present a cheque to the Vancouver Island Marmot Recovery Foundation.

Since Marty's introduction last season the team began a fund-raising initiative that has seen a dollar from every 'Mini-Marty' stuffed animal sold at the Salmon Kings' official team store, Kings Things, donated to the Vancouver Island Marmot Recovery Fund. The Salmon Kings support this effort to save these unique local animals from extinction.

Children in attendance will also have the opportunity to play a birthday game with Marty during the second intermission. All fans will have the chance to win various giveaways, including 'Mini-Martys' and Times Colonist T-shirts from the TC News Guy.

For tickets to this and all other Salmon Kings games please call (250) 220-7889.
