COLUMBIA, S.C. (Nov. 15, 2007)-Mac Faulkner's two Inferno goals weren't enough as Columbia (5-5-1-1, 12 points) fell to the Charlotte Checkers (6-2-0-1, 13 points) 3-2 in a shootout Thursday night at the Carolina Coliseum.

Faulkner, playing his first game since sustaining an injury at Florida last week, gave the Inferno a 1-0 lead when Tyler Doig dug a loose puck out of the far corner and fed him the puck in the mid-slot. Faulkner took the pass and beat Checkers goalie Miika Wiikman's glove side with a high wrister at 14:11 in the first period.

Charlotte tied the game just two minutes into the second period when winger Lee Falardeau beat Columbia netminder Jeff Jakaitis over his blocker shoulder for Falardeau's fourth goal of the season. The Checkers took a 2-1 lead at the 8:42 mark when winger Chris Capraro notched his second of the season with a heavy wrister from the far circle, cleanly beating Jakaitis' glove.

The Inferno forced the extra frame with about seven minutes left in the third when Faulkner's fourth of the season slipped through Wiikman's five-hole.

Neither side mustered much during overtime, and the Checkers scored on their first two shots in the shootout while Wiikman stopped every Inferno shooter but Jeff Miles to allow the Checkers to escape with the victory. Wiikman finished with 32 saves, while Jakaitis stopped 28 of 30.

The Inferno return to the Carolina Coliseum on Saturday, Nov. 17 when they host the Augusta Lynx at 1:05 p.m.
