ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces scored twice shorthanded and once on the power play in the third period alone, part of a comeback that resulted in a 5-3 victory over Fresno on Wednesday before 3,762 at Sullivan Arena.

The Falcons grabbed an early 1-0 lead at 5:15 of the first period on a tip-in by rookie Oren Eisenman and threatened to go up 2-0 when Mike Ramsay was awarded a penalty shot at 12:29. But Alaska starter Chris Beckford-Tseu thwarted Ramsay's backhand attempt, and 23 seconds later, Francois-Pierre (F.P.) Guenette whistled home a loose puck behind Fresno goalie Kris Mayotte. The Aces failed to convert four first period power plays, including a pair of abbreviated five-on-three's, and fell behind once again when Brady Liesenring scored with 5:39 left in the frame. The Falcons out-shot the home team 13-10 in a scoreless second period, and led 2-1 with 20 minutes to play.

Alaska needed just 26 seconds to tie the contest, as Josh Soares scored the first of his two goals by roofing a wrist shot from the top of the left circle. Four minutes later, with Fresno bidding to regain the lead on a power play, the Aces took their first lead when Bo Cheesman sent Matt Shasby loose on a breakaway and the latter scored on a backhander. Alaska snapped a 1-for-22 slump on its own power play with 12:20 left in regulation, as Soares scored again after a wild scramble in front, giving him seven goals on the season, one off the ECHL lead for rookies. Jarrett Konkle brought Fresno within 4-3 less than a minute later, but with an opportunity to tie the game on another power play, the Falcons instead saw Cheesman snuff out their hopes of a comeback by taking an outlet pass from Ryan Glenn (two assists, +2) fresh out of the penalty box and scoring on the ensuing breakaway with 3:23 remaining.

Beckford-Tseu finished with 29 saves in running his regular season record with the Aces to 28-2-2. Alaska remains one point behind Victoria in the West Division race at 7-3-1 overall, including three victories when trailing after two periods, matching its total from a season ago. The Aces and Falcons (4-3-2) resume their three-game series Friday night at 7:15 p.m. All regular season games are broadcast live on Alaska's flagship station, AM 750 KFQD, with coverage beginning 15 minutes prior to the opening face-off.
