Springfield Falcons News Release
Hartford, Conn. â The Springfield Falcons fell to the Hartford Wolf Pack by a score of 2-0 at the Hartford Civic Center on Wednesday night. The Falcons outshot the Wolf Pack, 28-27, in the game, but were not able to beat the AHL's reigning MVP netminder Jason LaBarbera. Hartford left wing Chad Wiseman scored during a second period power play and veteran Ken Gernander added an empty net goal with less than a second remaining to play. Falcons goaltender Jamie Storr turned aside 25 of 26 shots in the Springfield net.   Neither club lit the lamp in the first period as the Falcons outshot the Wolf Pack, 12-9. Forwards Shane Willis, Derek Bekar, and Nikita Alexeev were among Falcons who came close to putting Springfield on top during the opening twenty minutes. Hartford's best chances during the frame came during an early power play in which center Dominic Moore and right wing Jozef Balej each hit posts.  The Wolf Pack capitalized on their only power-play of the second period to claim a 1-0 lead with 7:46 remaining in the frame. Hartford's Craig Weller knocked a puck away from Brian Chapman just before the Falcons defenseman could clear it from the front of the Springfield net. The puck landed on the stick of Wiseman who went to his backhand to beat Storr for his fifth goal of the season.    The Falcons nearly knotted the contest during a man advantage with 3:40 left in regulation when Bekar stripped the puck from a Wolf Pack defenseman before setting up Ryan Craig for a shot from the left face-off circle. However, LaBarbera stretched for a glove save on a shot labeled for the far corner.  The Wolf Pack potted an empty net goal to cap scoring with .2 seconds left as Gernander connected from the neutral zone for his first goal of the season.  The Falcons finished the night scoreless on six power-play chances while Hartford converted one of six opportunities.  The Falcons continue action away from The Nest as the club will visit the Worcester IceCats at the DCU Center on Friday.
