Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (28-32) used four clutch extra-base hits to power their way to a 7-4 win over the Kansas City T-Bones (26-34) on Saturday night at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo, ND.
The top of the RedHawks order looked determined to get off to a fast start on a muggy Saturday night at Newman Outdoor Field. The first two batters, Zach Penprase and Carlo Cota, each worked a full count and drew walks. With a 1-1 count on Nic Jackson, the runners took off on a double steal which allowed both of them to score when Jackson poked a double down the left field line. Not to be outdone, Kyle Nichols followed by jumping on an inside pitch and putting it over the left field fence for a two-run home run. That gave the RedHawks an early 4-0 lead.
The T-Bones continued to score with two outs though (six of their seven runs last night) as they put three runs up on the board in the second inning on Jake Laber. With two outs and Jim Fasano on second base, Aharon Eggleston singled to score him. Then, Johnny Bowden and Jeff Hulett hit back-to-back doubles into the left field corner two score two more runs and narrow the gap to one.
The RedHawks offense wasn't done yet though. Carlo Cota and C.J. Retherford each came through with clutch, run-producing doubles later in the game to give the RedHawks a comfortable 7-3 lead.
Jake Laber battled through trouble second inning and pitched seven and one third innings. Laber allowed four runs total (all earned) on nine hits and had eight strikeouts while picking up his eighth win of the year and sixth at home. Matt Mitchell started the game for the T-Bones, lasting only four innings in his third loss. Mitchell gave up five runs (all earned) on six hits and five walks.
Donnie Smith notched the last five outs of the game, getting them all in order to pick up his first save of the year.
The RedHawks play the final game of their four-game series with the Kansas City T-Bones on Sunday afternoon. Game time is 1:00 pm. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling 701-235-6161, online at www.fmredhawks.com, or at the Ticket Office during business hours.
