Sioux City Explorers News Release

Sioux City-----The Explorers lost 7-5 Friday at Lewis and Clark Park in 10 innings to the St. Paul Saints. It was the second straight two run loss for the X's.

St. Paul scored two runs in the top of the tenth inning on RBI's by Ole Sheldon and Jason Cooper to win the game. However, it was Saints rightfielder Brandon Tripp who saved the game for St. Paul with two great defensive catches in the final two innings.

With the game tied at 5-5 in the bottom of the ninth and two outs, the Explorers had the potential winning run on second base when Brett Flowers drove a pitch into the gap in right centerfield and Tripp made a diving catch to send the contest to extra innings. After St. Paul had taken the lead in the top of the tenth, the Explorers loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the tenth when Derek Schermerhorn hit another pitch in right centerfield and Tripp made another diving catch to end the game.

The Explorers had taken a 3-2 lead in the second inning on a three-run home run by T.J. Bohn, his seventh home run of the season. Sioux City then increased that lead to 5-2 on a two-out single by Brian Bistange in the sixth inning. St. Paul added single runs in the seventh and eighth innings and in the ninth Jonathan Van Every drove a pitch out of the park to tie the game at 5-5. It was Van Every's 15th home run of the season.

The third game of the four-game series will be TONIGHT at Lewis and Clark Park with game time at 7:05. Reserve your seats now and come out early for Happy Hour on the BBQ deck from 6PM until the first pitch and enjoy $1 domestic draft beer and $1 soda!
