Fort Worth 10, El Paso 7
Fort Worth soared out to an 8-0 lead after three innings played as they defeated El Paso 10-7. Cats DH Ryan Patterson hit an RBI single in the first inning and LF John Allen hit a two-RBI single three batters later. The Cats plated three more runs in the second frame and two runs in the third to establish a big early lead. The Diablos then scored five unanswered runs to cut Fort Worth's lead to 8-5. The Cats recovered, tallying an insurance run in the sixth and eighth inning to outlast El Paso's persistent comeback. Patterson went 4-for-6 at the plate and Allen went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate. Allen, Patterson, C Kelley Gulledge and RF Marcos Rodriguez all had two RBIs in the game for Fort Worth. Cats starting pitcher Dwayne Pollok tossed seven innings and allowed five earned runs on eleven hits to earn the win. Cats reliever Nick DeBarr conceded a run in the bottom of the ninth but still fanned two batters in the inning and earned the save. For the Diablos, DH Scott Hodsdon hit a three-RBI triple in the loss.
Fargo-Moorhead 7, Kansas City 4
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks scored four runs in their first at-bat as they went on to defeat the Kansas City T-Bones 7-4. RedHawks CF Nic Jackson started the scoring with a two-RBI double in the first inning. The next batter, 1B Kyle Nichols hit a two-run homer to give Fargo-Moorhead a quick 4-0 lead. Kansas City countered with three runs in the top of the second, but RedHawks starting pitcher Jake Laber settled down after the second inning, allowing just one additional run in his 7.1 innings pitched to earn the win. Laber allowed four earned runs total on nine hits and fanned eight hitters. RedHawks 3B C.J. Retherford went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and two RBIs and 2B Carlo Cota batted in one run in the game. Kansas City's Jeff Hulett had two RBIs in the loss.
Winnipeg 19, Sioux Falls 5
The Winnipeg Goldeyes plated seven runs in the first inning as they routed the Sioux Falls Pheasants 19-5. Goldeyes SS Wes Long led Winnipeg with five RBIs in the game. Long hit a grand slam and a double in the game. Winnipeg 1B Brian Myrow went 3-for-5 at the plate with a triple and three RBIs, and DH Justin Bass went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Jon Weber also homered in the game for Winnipeg and had two RBIs. Goldeyes starting pitcher Mike Williams earned the win, pitching five innings and allowing four runs on ten hits. Pheasants DH Hunter Jobes homered in a losing effort for Sioux Falls.
Lincoln 3, Amarillo 1
Lincoln downed Amarillo 3-1 in a pitcher's duel. Four Lincoln Saltdog pitchers combined to allow just three hits and one earned run. Lincoln relief pitcher Nick Schreiber was credited with the win, allowing no runs and just one hit in 2.2 innings pitched. Saltdogs reliever PJ Zocchi worked a 1-2-3 ninth to earn the save. The Saltdogs scored two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead. Lincoln LF Gavin Dickey, DH Rafael Alvarez and C Pat Trettel each batted in a run. For the Sox, starting pitcher Matt Elliott pitched well in the loss, allowing just six hits and three earned runs in seven innings pitched.
Gary SouthShore 9, Shreveport-Bossier 0
RailCats starting pitcher Scott Shaw tossed a complete game three-hitter as Gary SouthShore blanked Shreveport-Bossier for a 9-0 win. Shaw fanned 11 hitters and walked just one. The right-hander improved his record to 7-3 this season with the win. Leading 3-0, the RailCats scored six runs in the seventh inning to break the game wide open. RailCats CF Mike Massaro went 3-for-5 at the plate with two doubles and three RBIs, and 1B Mike Rohde had a double and three RBIs in the game. Left fielder Lorenzo Scott and RF Cristian Guerrero each batted in a run for Gary SouthShore in the win.
St. Paul 7, Sioux City 3
St. Paul struck first in this one with four runs in the top of the fourth as the Saints went on to defeat Sioux City 7-3. Saints C Alex Garabedian hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning and led St. Paul with five RBIs in the game. Saints starting pitcher Alberto Rolon allowed just one earned run on nine hits to earn the win. Rolon pitched eight innings and struck out five hitters. St. Paul 3B Ronnie Bourquin and LF Jason Cooper each had an RBI in the game. Explorers 3B Wally Backman went a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs in a losing effort.
Grand Prairie 6, Wichita 3
The Grand Prairie AirHogs built a 6-0 lead in the first two innings and that was enough to carry them to a 6-3 win over the Wichita Wingnuts. AirHogs 1B Greg Porter hit a two-RBI single in the bottom of the first to start the scoring. Porter then collected another RBI with an RBI single in the second inning. In the four-run second frame, AirHogs CF Danny Figueroa hit an RBI triple, SS Guillermo Martinez singled in a run and 3B Cesar Nicolas batted in a run with a sacrifice fly. Grand Prairie pitcher John Brownell allowed three runs on just five hits in 6.2 innings pitched to earn the win. Brownell fanned nine hitters in the game. Grand Prairie reliever Jon Hunton worked a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save. For Wichita, C Edwin Bellorin had two RBIs in a losing effort.
