Round Rock Express News Release
(ROUND ROCK, TX) - Less than a week ago, Express infielder Royce Huffman was hitting under .200. On Monday night at The Dell Diamond, Huffman looked more like a .400 hitter, pounding out four hits and four RBIs in five times up, including his second homer of the season. Huffman's hitting and six solid innings from starter Brandon Duckworth led the way, as the Express took its third straight from division leading Albuquerque, 9-3.
The Express got the scoring started against former Express starter Travis Smith on a one out triple from LF Luke Scott and an RBI single by SS Danny Klassen to make it 1-0 Express. Round Rock also got solo runs in the second and third innings to make the score 3-0 before Albuquerque scored on a solo, one out homer from 1B Todd Sears to narrow the gap to 3-1 Round Rock.
But the E-Train came back with a vengeance in the fourth inning as Huffman and Scott hit back-to-back homers off Smith to up the ante to 5-1 Express.
In the fifth inning, Albuquerque got a pinch hit homer off Duckworth from pinch hitter Wilson Delgado making it 5-2.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Round Rock picked up two more runs on a Huffman RBI single and a sacrifice fly from Scott to make the score 7-2.
In the sixth inning, 3B Joe Dillon lined a Duckworth pitch into the Maxwell Home Run porch to make it 7-3.
And in the seventh inning, the Express finished the scoring with yet another RBI by Huffman, his fourth on a double, and an RBI ground out by Luke Scott to make it a 9-3 final.
Excellent relief work, two shutout innings from Travis Driskill and a shutout inning from Roberto Giron, kept the game in check from the 7th inning on.
The series finale takes place at 7:05 PM on Tuesday evening at The Dell Diamond.
