Tucson Sidewinders News Release
Tucson, AZ - Starting LHP Jon Cannon had a great night on the mound and at the plate as the Sidewinders defeat the 51s 9-8. In just his second start back from his DL stint (shoulder) Cannon pitched 5 scoreless innings with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts and earned his 2nd win of the year. Cannon helped his own cause with his bat as he went 3-for-3 with a run, 2 doubles, a homerun and 3 RBI and left the game with an 8-0 lead. The 51s made it interesting down the stretch out scoring the Sidewinders 8-1 in the final 4 innings but the Sidewinders held on to victory 9-8.
Cannon was not the only one hitting well as 3B Brian Barden and CF Luis Terrero helped lead the offense. Barden went 3-for-5 with a run and a strikeout. Terrero went 2-for-4 with 2 runs, a double and a strikeout. With his homerun in the 1st inning 2B Andy Green moved his hit streak to 15 games. Green's 15-gamer is the longest of any Sidewinder surpassing his own record of 14. The pitchers for Tucson combined to go 4-for-4 on the evening with 4 RBI.
Cannon earned the win and moved to 2-3 on the season with a 4.72 ERA. One night after earning his 1st win LHP Randy Choate earned his 1st save of the season going 1 inning and giving up 1 hit.
The win moves the Sidewinders to 39-39 on the year 22-20 at home. The Sidewinders continue their 4 game set with the 51s tomorrow at Tucson Electric Park with first pitch scheduled for 7 PM. The scheduled starters are LHP Michael Gosling (3-4, 6.15) for the Sidewinders and RHP Pat Mahomes (5-6, 4.76) for the 51s.
