McClain, Correia earn PCL weekly honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Iowa Cubs' Scott McClain hit four home runs, six doubles, and 15 RBI to be named the PCL Player of the Week for the week of June 20-26. Kevin Correia of the Fresno Grizzles earns the Pitcher of the Week award for allowing just one run in 12 innings while striking out nine, becoming the second Fresno pitcher to earn the honor this season.

McClain, 33, originally from Sarasota, Florida, had four multi-hit and multi-RBI games to give him a .467 average on the week helping lead Iowa to a 6-1 record. He has 16 home runs and 48 RBI with a .281 AVG on the season. Scott returns to the PCL after playing the last four years in Japan and has been named a Triple-A All-Star three times in 1997, 1998, and 2000.

Correia, from San Diego, California, went 2-0 with a 0.75 ERA last week, striking out five while not allowing a run in five innings against Salt Lake on Monday. Then, he went seven innings at Colorado Springs, allowing one run and striking out four on Saturday. Kevin has seven saves and is 3-2 on the season. This 24-year-old righty has seen Major League action in each of the last two seasons with the Giants. Teammate Matt Cain earned the PCL Pitcher of the Week award for Fresno on May 2, 2005.
