Sioux City Explorers News Release

SIOUX CITY, IA -- Alex Llanos drove in 3 runs, Juan Camacho drove in 2, Dustin Jones tied a league record, both managers got ejected, it was the largest crowd of the year -- other than that nothing happened in an Explorers 12-5 win over the Saltdogs Thursday night at Lewis & Clark Park.

Sioux City matched a season high with 12 runs on 13 hits. Every player but 1 scored at least 1 run. Jones walked 4 times, matching an American Association record. Les Lancaster and Tim Johnson were both ejected in the same inning, arguing balls and strikes. And 4, 223 fans showed up to see all the madness.

The X's scored 3 runs in the third inning to get the ball rolling. Jason Tuttle and Nick McCoola had leadoff singles and Llanos brought home 1 with a sac fly. Camacho brought home another with a RBI single. Chad Gabriel brought home a third on a RBI single. Sioux City had a 3-0 lead.

Lincoln scored 2 in the 4th and 1 in the 5th to tie the game at 3-3. In the bottom of the 5th, Camacho drilled a RBI double and Jason Bryan bounced a RBI single up the middle to give the X's a 5-3 lead, a lead they would never relinquish.

The Dogs creeped closer with an unearned run in the 6th but the X's got a RBI double from Llanos in the bottom of the inning and Llanos scored when he stole third and Joe Dempsy threw the ball away. That gave Sioux City a 7-4 lead.

The X's would blow it open in the 7th when Lincoln reliever Vince Davis gave up 2 walks to Bryan and Jones. Derek Schermerhorn would hit a grounder to 2nd that Corey Harrington would muff to score 1 run. Tuttle would bring home another on a fielders choice and Llanos would single in another to give Sioux City a 10-4 edge. The Explorers went on to win 12-5.

Llanos went 3-4 with 3 RBI, 1 run and 2 stolen bases. Camacho went 2-5 with a double, 2 RBI and 2 runs. Bryan went 1-2 with 2 walks, a hit by pitch, RBI, and 2 runs. Gabriel went 3-5 with 2 doubles, 1 RBI, and a run scored. Nick Singleton didn't pitch his best but went 5 1/3 IP to get his 4th win of the year. Ryan Dittfurth gave up 5 runs in 4 1/3 innings to take the loss. The X's took 2 of 3 from Lincoln in the series.

Sioux City will finish off the homestand Friday night on the 4th of July as the X's will entertain Sioux Falls. Paige Dumont (3-1) will get the start for the Explorers while Travis Kane (6-2) will pitch for the Canaries. Game time is 7:05; reserve seats are still available for the game with fireworks after the contest. Call 277-WINS to get your tickets.
