AirHogs Fall Short to the Diablos 3-2

Grand Prairie, TX (07.02.08) - The Grand Prairie AirHogs had their seven-game winning streak snapped as El Paso scored a 3-2 win Wednesday night at QuikTrip Park. El Paso scored a run in the top of the ninth inning to snap a 2-2 tie and relief pitcher Mike Cervera earned the save in the bottom of the ninth.

Grand Prairie was first on the board in the bottom of the third. Brandon Carter blasted a solo homer to left field grabbing the AirHogs only run of the inning setting the score at 1-0.

El Paso finally answered in the top of the sixth with an infield RBI single by Matt Kent bringing in Kory Drew. The Diablos then took the lead with another RBI single to left field by Bryon Smith giving Walter Olmstead the run. AirHogs pitcher Jose Cordero was able to close the inning there with the Diablos ahead 1-2.

In the bottom of the sixth with Aaron Marsden pitching for the Diablos, Derek Nicholson tied the game with an RBI single to right bring Billy Munoz home. Grand Prairie appeared to have taken a 3-2 lead on Michael Conroy's sacrifice fly to left, but Edwin Maldonado left the third base bag too soon and was ruled out, nullifying the run.

The Diablos captured the lead in the top of the ninth with a Brian Cooksey RBI single to right leaving the AirHogs behind 3-2. The AirHogs were unable to answer in the bottom. Both teams are 1-1 in the second half of the season.

Jose Cordero pitched 6.0 innings with 6 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk, and 4 strikeouts.

Vinnie DeChristofaro (3-1) earned the lose pitching 1.0 innings with 1 hit, 1 run, 2 walks and 1 strikeout.

Jusef Frias pitched 5.0 innings with 6 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk, and 5 strikeouts.

Brandon Hudson (1-0) earned the win with 0 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks, and 1 strikeout.
