St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL. MN (July 3, 2008) - For the third time in the last 10 days the St. Paul Saints lost to Ryan Ford and the Sioux Falls Canaries this time 4-1 on Thursday night at Midway Stadium in front of 5,586.
Ford was so strong on Thursday night he didn't allow a base-runner to second until the ninth inning. The Saints managed just six men on base over the first eight innings before breaking through in the ninth. Ford hurled 8.1 innings allowing one run on six hits while walking two and striking out five. In the ninth Tony Mansolino led off with a single to right. He moved to second on a wild pitch and advanced to third on a ground out by Tim Brown. Pichi Balet singled to left to drive home Mansolino. Balet finished the night 3-4 with an RBI. The Canaries brought in Kris Regas, the league leader in saves, who struck out Kevin Sullivan, but gave up a single to Brent Krause. Heath Keel, who represented the tying run, struck out looking on a 3-2 pitch to end the game.
The Canaries jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning when Kennard Bibbs led off with a single to left. Grant Richardson doubled him home to make it 1-0. With one out Beau Torbert hit a two-run homer to right, his 12th of the season.
In the third Josh Patton singled with one out. After Torbert bounced into a fielder's choice ground out Ben Van Iderstine singled to right and Keel misplayed the ball allowing Torbert to score on the error, giving the Canaries a 4-0 lead.
Saints starter Justin Lord pitched well going 7.0 innings allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits while walking one and striking out five.
The Saints take on the Lincoln Saltdogs Friday night at 7:05 p.m. in the first game of a three game series. The Saints send RHP Dustin Bolton (3-1, 2.82) to the mound. It is a Tribute to Veterans presented by TDS Metrocom with a postgame fireworks.
