Airhogs trounce the Diablos 14-2

The Grand Prairie Airhogs pounded out fourteen runs on eighteen hits to trounce the El Paso Diablos 14-2 on Thursday night from Quik Trip Park.

The Airhogs had an explosive bottom of the first inning. Grand Prairie scored four runs on five base hits in the frame. Edwin Maldonado had an RBI single, Derek Nicholson a two-run double, and J.B Tucker a two-run homer propelling the Airhogs to a 4-0 advantage.

Grand Prairie pounded out seven more runs in the bottom of the second inning. The Airhogs had three RBI doubles in the inning, one by Carter, Nicholson and Conroy, pushing the Airhogs out to an 11-0 advantage.

The Diablos reached the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning. Matt Kent plated Kory Drew with an infield single cutting the deficit to 11-1. The Diablos pieced together another run in the top of the fifth. Bryan Cooksey picked up an RBI on a fielders choice, making it an 11-2 game.

Grand Prairie made it a 14-2 game in the bottom of the seventh inning. J.B Tucker had an RBI double and Mike Conroy had an RBI single.

Nat Harris (4-1) threw seven innings allowing two runs off of seven hits with no walks and three strikeouts.

Ben Thurmond (0-2) lasted one inning allowing seven runs, three of them earned off of seven hits with no walks and no strikeouts.

The Diablos will open up a three game series at home against the Shreveport Sports on Friday night at 6:30 PM. Josh Kauten will take the hill for the Diablos against Thad Markray for the Sports.
