Explorers defeat Rockland

Sioux City-----The Explorers defeated Rockland of the Can-Am League 4-1 here Thursday as the X's swept their first series of the season. Sioux City won the first two games 10-7 and 11-1, but Thursday won in a pitchers duel. Aaron Correa, making only his second start of the season for the Explorers pitched six and two third innings in picking up his second win of the season. Correa scattered seven hits while striking out three and walking only one, giving up that one run in his last inning of pitching. Gustavo Chacin, the former major league pitcher, went six innings, struck out eight, but took the loss for Rockland. The Explorers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Brandon Newton led off with a single and scored later on a sacrifice fly RBI by Jorge Delgado. Sioux City added their second run in the fourth inning on a two-out single by Mike Murphy that scored Adrian Martinez who had doubled. After Rockland cut the lead to 2-1 with a run in the top of the seventh inning, the Explorers came back and scored two in the bottom of the seventh on RBI's by Delgado, his second of the game and his eighth of the series. Youske Inoguchi drove in the final run on an infield out. Andrew Snowden came in relief in the seventh inning for the Explorers and pitched the final two and one third innings, striking out five and recorded his first save of the year. The Explorers will now begin a three-game series at Wichita Friday. After an off-day Monday, the Explorers will return home Tuesday to start a three-game series with Kansas City at Lewis and Clark Park.
