Scurry Ties Up Lemurs

August 16, 2012 - American Association (AA)
Laredo Lemurs News Release

Sioux Falls, SD - Sioux Falls Pheasants (37-46) starter Rod Scurry (4-6) came out firing against the Laredo Lemurs (40-43) on Thursday night as he allowed only one run, on three hits, in eight innings of work to help his team to a 2-1 win at Sioux Falls Stadium in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Scurry tied up the Lemurs early and often as he retired the side in order four times and only allowed a base hit through his first seven innings of work.

The Lemurs threated in the ninth going into the inning down 2-0. Jimmy Mojica started off the frame with a double to the left center gap to scare Scurry out of the game.

The Pheasants turned things over to their new relief pitcher, Jordan Wellander, making his second professional appearance. He came in and gave up a base hit to Palmer Karr Jr. to bring the Lemurs within one run of the lead at 2-1 with no outs.

With Karr at first, Javier Brito doubled to put runners at second and third. Uriak Marquez was walked to load the bases, which brought up Brian Peterson with one out. Peterson struck out and so did the next batter Stephen Pearson to squash the Lemurs hopes of coming back to tie up the game in the ninth.

Ryan Sasaki (4-3) took the loss for the Lemurs, although he pitched well, going six and third, giving up two runs, on seven hits, with two walks, and two strikeouts.

The Lemurs now head to Kansas City to take on the T-Bones in a three game set before heading home.

The Laredo Lemurs will be on this six game road trip that take them through Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Kansas City, Kansas. The Lemurs will be home for a six game home stand starting on August 21st. You can get tickets at the Laredo Lemurs box office, online at www.laredolemurs.com, or by phone at 956-7LEMURS. All games at Uni-Trade Stadium are set for 7:30pm.
