Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars, in conjunction with the Oakland Athletics, announced today that first baseman Tommy Everidge has returned to the active 25-man roster, and left-handed reliever Derek Tharpe has been placed on the temporary inactive list for the next three games. The Cougars open the final series of the regular season tonight at Elfstrom Stadium against the Cedar Rapids Kernels (Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim) and are tied with the Beloit Snappers (Minnesota Twins) for the final playoff spot in the Western Division.
Everidge was inactivated for the final two games against Southwest Michigan, where the Cougars just finished their final regular-season road trip. The slugging infielder is tied for second on the team in RBIs (62) and is third in home runs (12). He has taken the field for the Cougars in 110 games this season, fourth-most on the squad.
Tharpe has pitched in 35 games for the Cougars, 23 of which have been relief appearances. Since going to the bullpen in July, the former Tennessee Volunteer has produced a 2.19 ERA and a 1-2 record. The Cougars roster remains at 25 active players.
The Cougars continue to pursue a playoff bid, and the weekend series with the Kernels features action-packed excitement off the field as well. The season-ending series is highlighted by three fireworks shows (Friday - Sunday), visits from WUSN US99 Morning Show hosts "Big John" Howell and Ramblin' Ray Stevens on behalf of Special Olympics Illinois (Friday), Myron Noodleman (Friday), Skydivers (Saturday) and the ZOOperstars (Sunday) and great baseball action.
