West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
LANSING, MI - With two out in the top of the ninth inning, the Whitecaps put together three consecutive RBI singles for a 6-4 come-from-behind victory in Lansing. West Michigan's magic number to clinch the top Eastern Division seed in the second half has been reduced to 1. Kevin Ardoin was perfect on the mound for the Whitecaps over the final three innings to earn the win. After the Whitecaps pulled to within one run at 4-3 in the third, they had the tying run on base six times. Three times, the tying run went to third, but the 'Caps did not score again until Brent Dlugach knocked an opposite field single to right to drive in Jeff Frazier with the tying run. Josh Lee hit an opposite field single to left for the go ahead run scoed by Clete Thomas. Chris Robinson added an insurance run with his single. Robinson went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles and a run scored. Luke French started for the Whitecaps and pitched the first six innings with eight hits, three walks and four runs allowed. Connor Falkenbach, in just his second appearance for Lansing came on to pitch the ninth inning and allowed all three Whitecaps runs in the inning. Scoreboard Watching: Southwest Michigan defeated Quad Cities, 5-4 to eliminate Lansing from playoff contention and clinch a playoff berth for the Devil Rays. One more Southwest Michigan loss or Whitecaps win will set the first round playoff match ups as West Michigan vs. Fort Wayne and South Bend vs. the Devil Rays. Speaking of the Silver Hakws, they led Peoria 10-1 in the ninth. A win would reduce the South Bend magic number to 1 to clinch the second half division title.
