Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades President and General Manager Craig Brush along with Head Coach Greg Poss announced today that forward Mike McKenzie has been recalled by the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League and that forward Dusty Collins has been reassigned to the team from the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.
McKenzie returns to Charlotte for the second time this season having played in nine games with the Checkers in his first call-up to the AHL last month. The recall to the AHL is the third of his professional career. The 24-year-old made his professional debut last season with the Albany River Rats, playing in three games, notching one assist.
This season the rookie from Whitby, Ontario ranks fifth on the Everblades in scoring with 38 points (18g, 20a) in 55 games. Earlier this season McKenzie was named the ECHL's Rookie of the Month in December.
Collins returns to the Everblades after a brief call-up to Toronto that saw him skate in the Marlies' 2-1 shootout loss to Texas on Sunday. In addition to his game with Toronto, the 26-year-old has played in 10 other AHL games this season with the San Antonio Rampage (7 GP) and Manitoba Moose (3 GP).
Collins was acquired by the Everblades on March 11 in a trade with Ontario and made his Everblades debut in Florida's 4-3 overtime win over Greenville this past Saturday. Overall with Ontario and Florida in the ECHL this season the Gilbert, Arizona native has collected 26 points (9g, 17a) and 70 penalty minutes in 51 games.
The Everblades return to action today when they host the Greenville Road Warriors at 5:00 p.m. from Germain Arena. Visit www.floridaeverblades.com and www.germainarena.com for more information on ticket packages, pricing and upcoming Germain Arena events.
