DULUTH, GA - The Gwinnett Gladiators put up a valiant effort, but came up short against the Cincinnati Cyclones in a 4-3 loss Tuesday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.

The win moves Cincinnati into the eighth and final playoff spot in the East. Gwinnett falls to ninth and have dropped two of their last three.

Trailing 4-1 early in the third, the Gladiators fought their way back into the game. Forward Devin Timberlake collected his first goal as a Gladiator at the halfway mark in the third to make it 4-2. He joined Gwinnett on March 2nd as part of a trade with the Reading Royals.

Kyle Kucharski had the assist on the goal, and kept the puck alive in front for several point blank opportunities before Timberlake cashed in.

Matt Duffy picked up the Glads second goal of the period and his fourth of the season at the 16:22 mark to cut the deficit to one, hammering home a one-timer shortly after a powerplay expired. That was as close as Gwinnett would get.

For the first time in their last nine games the Glads did not score a powerplay goal. Gwinnett went 0-for-3 on the man advantage while Cincinnati was held to 0-for-2. Chris Carrozzi suffered the loss, surrendering all four goals on 38 shots. Brian Foster stopped 33 of 36 in a winning effort.

Barrett Ehgoetz put the Cyclones (29-25-9) on the board first with a tally at the 5:38 mark in the first period. The Glads (29-27-7) responded two minutes later with a slapshot coming off the stick of Matt Francis to tie the game at one.

Francis missed 38 games on the IR, but returned last weekend in Elmira. This was his second goal in his third game back.

The Cyclones regained the lead, however, as Brady Calla added another marker to make it 2-1 at the end of twenty.

Just 2:34 into the second period the Cyclones pushed their lead to two with a goal from Jake Hauswirth. At the end of two the score remained 3-1 with Cincinnati outshooting Gwinnett 29-22.

Gwinnett faces the Florida Everblades Friday, March 18th at 7:35 pm.
