Alaska's Goldie Named Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Alaska Aces right wing Wes Goldie is the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for March 7-13. It is the second time this season, and the third time in his ECHL ‚¬Ë†career, that Goldie has won the weekly honor.

The 31 year old scored five goals, added four assists and was a +4 as Alaska swept a three-game series from ‚¬Ë†Mountain Division rival Victoria to stretch its lead over Idaho to nine points for first place in the division.

Goldie scored two goals, added an assist and was +3 in a 5-3 win on ‚¬Ë†Wednesday and added four points (2g-2a) in a 6-1 victory on ‚¬Ë†Friday. He ended the week with a goal and an assist in a 3-1 win on Saturday.

A native of London, Ontario, Goldie is tied for the league lead with 37 goals and 15 power-play goals, is fifth with 26 power-play points and is seventh with 67 points.

Goldie has 528 points (326g-202a) in 616 career ECHL games with ‚¬Ë†Pee Dee, Victoria and Alaska. His goal on ‚¬Ë†Saturday moved him into second place on the ECHL ‚¬Ë†all-time goals-scored list behind only Rod Taylor. He ranks fifth in ECHL history in games played and is 18th in points.

On behalf of Wes Goldie a case of pucks will be donated to an Alaska youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 23,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
