Florida Everblades News Release
CHARLESTON, SC - The Florida Everblades (44-20-3) wrapped up their longest road trip of the season with a 6-1-0 record after collecting a 4-1 win over the South Carolina Stingrays (30-23-13) on Tuesday night at the North Charleston Coliseum.
The Everblades, with the help of 17 first period shots, got off to the quick start scoring twice in the first eight minutes of the game. Steve Saviano notched his 21st goal of the season by collecting a power play goal at 5:47 of the opening frame. Vince Bellissimo gave the Everblades a 2-0 lead just over two minutes later at 7:58 by wristing a shot past Stingrays net-minder Davis Parley.
Despite seeing several quality chances turned away by Parley with big saves, the Everblades managed to add to their lead with a second period goal by Reggie Berg at 14:11. The goal was Berg's 10th of the year and allowed the Everblades to carry a 3-0 lead into the locker room.
The Stingrays battled back to cut the Florida lead to two when former Everblade Anders Strome tallied a power play goal at 8:56 of the period beating Everblades goalie Phil Osaer with a shot from the high slot. The momentum gained by the Stingrays was lost when the Everblades scored a late power play goal by Kevin Bergin with just 1:53 remaining in regulation.
With the win Osaer racked up his seventh win in his last nine starts and improved to 20-10-2 overall by stopping 23 of 24 shots. Parley turned away 36 of 40 shots but suffered the loss despite making several big saves to drop his overall record to 13-11-4.
On the power play, the Everblades finished the night 2-for-6, while the Stingrays closed out the game 1-for-5.
The Everblades return to action on Friday, March 31 when they host on the Pensacola Ice Pilots at 7:30 p.m. from the Germain Arena.
