San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO - Alex Kim has been named the In Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week for March 20 - March 26, the ECHL announced Tuesday. The San Diego Gulls centerman notched seven points in three games last week and was a +5.

Kim returned to the lineup Friday after missing the previous 31 games with a broken collar bone. It didn't take him long to hit the scoresheet, as he recorded two goals and an assist in San Diego's 4-2 win over the Long Beach Ice Dogs.

He followed that up the next night with one goal and one assist in the Gulls' 3-1 triumph against the Phoenix Roadrunners Saturday. Kim also had a goal and a helper Sunday in San Diego's 4-3 loss in Long Beach.

The 26-year-old from Fullerton, Calif. has netted 34 points (16g, 18a) in just 21 games this season. He leads the Gulls with a plus-minus rating of +18 and is tied for the club lead with three short-handed goals. Kim, who signed with the Gulls in late November, is in the midst of a career-high 15-game point streak, during which he's scored 27 points. That's the fifth longest streak in the ECHL this season.

Kim played last season for former Gulls head coach Steve Martinson with the United Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs, netting 28 points (8g, 20a) in 35 games. Kim also played in 13 playoff games for Rockford last season, accumulating 16 points (4g, 12a). His 12 postseason assists ranked fourth in the UHL.

In 186 professional games, Kim has notched 164 points (74g, 90a) and 143 penalty minutes. In 149 career games in the ECHL, he has registered 134 points (65g, 69a) and 135 penalty minutes.

San Diego's three game road trip continues Wednesday in Stockton, with game-time set for 7 p.m. The Gulls will play in Las Vegas Friday before opening their final homestand of the regular season Saturday vs. Idaho. All games can be heard on KLSD 1360AM and www.sandiegogulls.com with Chris Ello calling the play-by-play. All remaining games can also be viewed on the Gulls' web site, courtesy of B2 Networks.
