
Gulls' Kim Named In Glas Co ECHL Player Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Alex Kim of the San Diego Gulls is the In
Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week for Mar. 20-26.
The 5-foot-10 and 195-pound Kim had seven points (4g-3a) and a plus-minus
rating of +5 in three games while extending his scoring streak to 15 games,
the longest active scoring streak in the ECHL and the fifth-longest streak
in the league this season.
Returning to the lineup for the first time since suffering a broken
collarbone on Jan. 7, the 26-year-old had the first of three multiple-point
games with two goals and an assist in a 4-2 win against Pacific Division
rival Long Beach on Mar. 24. He scored a goal and had an assist in a 3-1
win over Phoenix on Mar. 25 and had a goal and an assist in a 4-3 loss at
Long Beach on Mar. 26.
In his first season with the Gulls, Kim leads the team in plus-minus rating
with +18 and he has scored in 19 of his 21 games, registering 34 points
(16g-18a). He leads the team with five shorthand points and is tied for the
team lead with three shorthand goals and two shorthand assists. He has
three multiple-goal games, three multiple-assist games and 10
multiple-point games and is tied for third on the team with three
game-winning goals.
Kim began his professional career in 2001-02 scoring two points (1g-1a) in
two games with Idaho in the West Coast Hockey League. He played his first
full professional season in 2002-03 with Reading in the ECHL, tying for
18th among league rookies and ranking fourth on the Royals with 46 points
(22g-24a) in 61 games.
He split the 2003-04 season between Peoria and Long Beach of the ECHL
scoring 13 points (5g-8a) in 25 games with the Rivermen while leading the
Ice Dogs with 22 goals, five game-winning goals and nine power-play goals
and finishing second on the team with 41 points (22g-19a) in 42 games.
The Fullerton, Calif. native played two seasons at Miami University (Ohio)
from 1997-99 where he had 46 points (26g-20a) in 67 games and two seasons
at Colorado College where he had 73 points (33g-40a) in 84 games. He also
played two years in the United States Hockey League where he had 109 points
(45g-64a) in 107 games for Des Moines.
On behalf of Alex Kim, a case of pucks will be donated to a San Diego area
youth hockey organization by In Glas Co, the exclusive puck supplier
for the ECHL. In Glas Co has donated over 14,000 pucks to youth
hockey organizations in ECHL cities since it began sponsoring the award in
2000-01.
