Charlotte Checkers News Release

Charlotte Checkers will serve as waiters at Wild Wing Café on Sunday, April 2nd, to the enjoyment of fans who will be there to support the annual Checkmate Children's Charities dinner and auction to benefit Special Olympics North Carolina.

Special auction items include NBA New Orleans Hornets star Chris Paul's autographed shoes, a racing car hood from Casey Mears signed by the driver, a team-autographed Carolina Panthers Helmet, the use of a suite at a Bobcats game and a basketball signed by the team, a New York Rangers jersey signed by Henrik Lundqvist, a gas grill and cart donated by Piedmont Natural Gas Co., two tickets to the Tim McGraw/Faith Hill concert at Charlotte Bobcats Arena (donated by the Arena), autographed color player photos from the Carolina Hurricanes and the Nashville Predators and signed Predators pucks, a barbecue party provided by SMS Catering, tickets to "Shear Madness" to be performed at Blumenthal Performing Arts Center and donated by Blumenthal, and a long list of other priceless auction items up for bidding.

One of the more unusual items is a copy of Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue in which model Brooklyn Decker has autographed both the cover of the magazine and one of her photos inside.

Spearheading the line-up of auction items will, of course, be a Charlotte Checkers team-signed jersey, stick, puck and the opportunity to spend a fun-filled evening of entertainment - including dinner - with two Checkers players. Checkers players will actually auction off Checkers items.

To accommodate the expected full-house there will be two seatings: 4:00-6:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Live and silent auctions will accompany each seating. Reservations are required and may be made by calling Wild Wing Café: 980/297-7000. The restaurant is located at 2132 Ayrsley Town Boulevard off of So. Tryon St. in Charlotte, near the I-485 intersection.

As in the past, Checkers hockey players will earn Puck Bucks ("tips") for Checkmate Charities by taking meal orders and answering trivia questions, singing a song, having a photo taken with fans, playing "Truth Or Dare," doing a requested impersonation, or turning over a Tip-A-Checker t-shirt. Puck Bucks and raffle

tickets will be on sale at Puck-Buck banks located inside Wild Wing during the event. Cash, check, MasterCard or Visa will be accepted.

In addition to dinner and the fun of getting to know Checkers players, bidding for silent and live auction items will be lively. "This is probably the players' favorite event of the year," said Checkers president Jeff Longo. "They really get into the spirit of the thing and have a lot of fun with the folks there because they know all of the proceeds go to make life better for kids who need their help. We hope we sell out the house this year as we have in the past. It's a great event for families or couples or even groups of friends who want to have a ball getting to know professional hockey players."

For further information, go to the Checkers website: www.gocheckers.com or call 704/342-4423. For dinner reservations, call 980/297-7000 and specify "Tip-A-Checker."
