Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums got a strong start out of Brooks Belter and two hits from Jose Vargas, but the Evansville Otters scored an unearned run in the seventh inning, pushing the Otters to a 5-1 victory.

TC got on the board with the initial tally of the contest as with the bases loaded, Kyle Eveland walked to force in Chase Burch, who had walked to lead off the frame. Evansville would tie the game in the top of the third as Luis Parache would single home Alex Foltz.

With the game tied at 1-1, Evansville saw DeAngelo Mack and Andrew Kuhn single to lead off the seventh. Brett Chamberlain came up and sacrificed back to the mound. The throw to first was wide, however, allowing Mack to score and giving the Otters a 2-1 edge.

Evansville would get some insurance in the ninth on a pair of homers of the bats of Chamberlain and Matt Sheely to create the final score.

Dan Blewett (2-1) went seven innings allowing four hits, walking six and striking out six to earn the win. Sam Brown (0-1) surrendered an unearned run in the seventh taking the loss.

Offensively for the Beach Bums, Jose Vargas had two hits giving him eight hits in the series in total with seven RBI.

The Beach Bums now head out on the road for a three-game showdown against the Southern Illinois Miners. Bennett Whitmore (1-1, 3.00) will start on Monday night for Traverse City against Darrin Tew (0-0, 3.68) for Southern Illinois. Coverage on Sunny Country 101.9 will begin at 7:45 p.m. outside of an 8:05 first pitch.
