
Miners Lose in Rockford

Rockford, IL - The Southern Illinois Miners lose the series finale to Rockford 16-5, but take the series two games to one. Miners starter Ian Campbell lasted three innings. He gave up 11 hits, allowed 13 runs, seven earned and walked two.
The Miners took an early 1-0 lead off RiverHawks starter Drew Rucinski with a sacrifice fly by Jake Kaase to bring in Darian Sandford. The RiverHawks took the lead in the bottom of the first off Miners starter Ian Campbell with a two run homerun by designated hitter Javier Herrera.
The RiverHawks broke open the game off starter Ian Campbell as they scored seven runs to take a 9-1 lead, third baseman Matt Greener hit a three run home run. The Miners committed two errors in the inning which attributed to only two runs being earned in the inning for Campbell. The RiverHawks added four more runs in the bottom of the third which gave the RiverHawks a 13-1 lead.
The Miners scored a run in the top of the seventh via a base hit and RBI by right fielder Ken Gregory to bring the Miners within 11, 13-2. The RiverHawks scored two more runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a 15-2 lead. They scored another run in the bottom of the eighth to take a 16-2 lead.
The Miners scored three runs in the top of the ninth. Darian Sandford walked with the bases loaded to bring in a run with one out. Jake Kaase hit a base hit to bring in another run. Chad Maddox grounded out to bring in the final run of the inning and game to make it 16-5. The Miners now fall to 14-7 on the season
Ben Shivers tossed two scoreless innings after relieving Campbell. Darrin Tew threw one scoreless inning. Gabe Shaw gave up a run in one inning and struck out one. Jason Ganek making his first professional relief appearance threw one inning and struck out one batter.
The Miners will return home to begin a three game home stand as they welcome in the Traverse City Beach Bums. The Miners will send RHP Dave Harden (3-1, 2.63 ERA) to the mound as he'll be opposed by LHP Bennett Whitmore (1-1, 3.00 ERA). The Heartland Regional Medical Center Pregame Show on the Miners Radio Network will begin at 6:45 pm. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
