Gateway Grizzlies News Release

AVON, OH - Antone DeJesus brought home Casey Allison on a ninth inning sacrifice fly and the Gateway Grizzlies held on for a 5-4 win Sunday against the Lake Erie Crushers at All Pro Freight Stadium. The win gave the Grizzlies their third win in a row and a series sweep of the Crushers.

Gateway (10-11) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. After scoring a run on a Lake Erie error, Jon Myers drove in his 13th run of the season to give the Grizzlies a two-run lead after one-half inning.

Lake Erie (7-14) responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first against Gateway starter, Cale Johnson. Andrew Davis highlighted the inning with an RBI single.

The scoring stayed the same until the fourth inning when Lake Erie got a solo home run from Kellen Kulbacki, his first of the season.

Gateway came back with single tallies in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 4-3 lead. Jerod Yakubik picked up an RBI single in the fifth and Mike Schwartz collected an RBI single in the sixth.

Lake Erie tied the game at four in the eighth, but that was short lived. In the ninth inning, Casey Allison walked, Justin Dunning was hit by a pitch, Jontahan Johnson picked up a sacrifice bunt and DeJesus gave the Grizzlies the lead on a sacrifice fly.

Yakubik, Myers, Chris McClendon and Schwartz all had multi-hit games for Gateway.

Paul Tremlin (2-0) picked up the victory, firing one and a third scoreless innings.

The Grizzlies begin a three-game home series with the River City Rascals on Monday night at GCS Ballpark. Tim Brown (1-2), who comes in fifth in the Frontier League in ERA, gets the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 7:05 CT.
