River City Rascals News Release

Schaumburg, Ill. - After a comeback effort fell short in game two of the series, River City was able to even the game at 5-5 in the eighth of the rubber game on Sunday, only to fall short again by a final of 6-5 for the second straight night.

River City (14-7) took a first inning lead on a double from Jeremy Synan that followed a single from Curran Redal to start the game, but Schaumburg answered back off Rascals starter Justin Edwards with a run in the first on a hit batter, three walks, and a sacrifice fly.

A run scoring groundout in the fourth gave the Boomers (13-8) a 2-1 lead that was stretched to 5-1 in the fifth on five hits, including four straight, that chased Edwards from the game.

The Rascals got a run back in the sixth on a sacrifice fly from Gerardo Avila before getting the offense rolling against the tiring Schaumburg starter Robby Donovan. Redal started the eighth with a walk, went to third on a single from Synan and scored on a Jason Patton sac-fly. Synan came across the plate on a wild pitch after Josh Workman singled and it was Avila, hitting .368 with runners in scoring position, who drove in Workman with a single to tie the game at 5-5.

Jason Sullivan pitched well in relief of Edwards, throwing 3 1/3 scoreless innings before giving way to Dustin Umberger with two outs in the eighth inning.

Umberger (0-1) got out of the eighth with a strikeout, pitched a clean ninth, but allowed a bloop double to start the 10th. After a sacrifice resulted in no out, an intentional walk loaded the bases and following a strikeout for the first out of the tenth, Jereme Milons drilled a first-pitch fastball up the middle for the walk-off Boomers' win.

The Rascals will continue this stretch of nine-straight road games with a three-game series against the crosstown rival Gateway Grizzlies Monday night with first pitch set for 7:05.

NOTES:

-Charlie Lisk returns to the lineup on Monday against his former team after missing the last six games to attend to his newborn son

-Boomers now have four walk-off wins this season
