Washington Wild Things News Release
Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, capped their series win against the Normal CornBelters, with a 5-0 victory. Starter Gary Lee pitched strong, earning his first win of the young season.
The Wild Things got on the board first, adding a run in the bottom of the second inning. First baseman Michael Bando led off the inning with a walk, and advanced to third on a throwing error by pitcher Tyler Stovall on a groundball by center fielder Robbie Garvey. Bando came home on an RBI groundout to second base by Michael Mooney.
The Wild Things went back to work in the bottom of the third inning.
Newly signed catcher Rick Devereaux hit a solo shot with two outs, making the score 2-0 Wild Things.
Lee hit a snag in the top of the fourth inning, giving up a lead-off single to shortstop Patrick McKenna, followed by a walk to right fielder Steven Felix. Lee battled back, getting first baseman Jordan Stouffer to fly out to right field, and designated hitter Patrick Trettel to ground into a 6-4-3 inning ending double play.
Lee had a solid outing, allowing only two hits and two walks in six innings of work. Lee also added six strikeouts, including striking out the side in the first inning.
The Wild Things went on to add another run in the bottom of the fourth inning, and two more in the bottom of the seventh. Mooney, who went 2-4, chipped in with an RBI double in the seventh. Wild Things 5, Normal 0.
Jhonny Montoya, who was activated off the IR earlier today, pitched two clean innings of work in the seventh and eighth. It was Montoya's first appearance since May 19 against Evansville.
Next up for the Wild Things is a nine game road trip, making stops in Lake Erie, Florence, and finishing up in London. They will return home to the House of Thrills to host Florence on June 20.
