Evansville Otters News Release
Evansville, IN- After dropping two of three in Marion, IL over the weekend, the Evansville Otters (44-22) look to get back to the winning ways when they host the Frontier Greys (30-34) for a three game set.
The Greys came to Bosse Field all the way back in June and the Otters took two of three from the perennial travelers. The two teams will play a doubleheader tonight with the first pitch scheduled for 5:35 pm CDT on Deaconess Clinic and Princess Night at Bosse Field. Throwing in Game One and making his Bosse Field debut will be former Major Leaguer Brett Marshall and throwing in Game Two is All-Star Trevor Walch.
Marshall made his Otters' debut last Thursday against the Gateway Grizzlies and while the long-time professional got a little wild (four walks), he picked up the win, holding the Grizzlies to just two runs over six innings of work, striking out five. The sinker-baller did not allow a hit through the first three innings before the Grizzlies finally got to him in the fourth, plating two runs. Marshall is 1-0 on the season and his ERA is at an even three. The Greys will counter with a righty of their own in Bobby Shore, who is 4-5 this season and has an ERA of 4.11.
Game Two will feature another pair of righties; Trevor Walch for the Otters and Colin Feldtman (3-1, 3.01) for the Greys. Walch is now 8-4 on the summer, coming off of a tough luck, complete game loss against the Miners on Friday. It was the second time this summer that Walch went eight innings in Marion, IL, picking up a complete game and yet suffering the loss. In eight innings he gave up just six hits, but two of those were home runs and the Otters offense just could not get going on Friday night, scoring just one run, and that was in the first inning. Walch's run support at Marion totals just one lone run and three hits over 18 frames. By allowing the two runs, Walch's ERA inched upwards to 1.38, which is still tops in the Frontier League.
The Otters offense is still paced by John Schultz who had yet another fantastic road trip. The Otter, in his third year with the ballclub, went 13-for-25 on the trip with a home run, two doubles, five runs driven in, five walks and eight runs scores as well as a stolen base. Schultz, who leads the Otters All-Time in total bases (406) and triples (14), is just nine behind the All-Time hits leader Denver Stuckey (270). With six games during the homestand, Schultz would have to average a little less than two hits per game to get it done; he had 13 hits in the six game road trip this past week.
Game One scheduled for 5:35 and the gates opening at 5 pm CDT. The pregame show on 91.5 FM WUEV featuring Mike Radomski, Bill McKeon and Jake Donnellly will begin at 5:15 pm CDT.
