Last time out...
The Freedom scored five runs in the second inning on their way to an 8-5 win over the Washington Wild Things on Sunday. Sam Eberle got things started with a double off Luke Wilkins (5-3). One out later Ozzy Gonzalez singled him home. After Travis Weaver reached on an error and Steve Carrillo walked, Daniel Fraga singled home two runs. Zac Mitchell followed with a two-RBI single of his own to make it 5-0 in favor of Florence. Andrew Godbold crushed his second homer of the season in the third to extend the lead to 6-0. Maxx Garrett responded with his second home run of the series in the bottom of the third. Then Carter Bell launched a three-run homer in the fourth to cut the Freedom lead to 6-4. But Gonzalez hit his first professional home run in the sixth, a two-run shot to put Florence up 8-4. Washington pushed across another run in the seventh but a combination of Cody Gray, Austin Delmotte, Pete Levitt, Zach Wendorf and Chuck Weaver was enough for the win.
For Starters Game One...
Jeremy Gooding makes his 10th start of the season tonight for the Freedom. He is coming off a tough luck 2-0 loss to the Lake Erie Crushers July 30 as he went five and two thirds innings, giving up two runs on nine hits, walking one and striking out six. Gooding has received a combined 1 run of support in his 3 losses. The 24 year old went to school at Madonna University in Michigan. He made his professional debut in 2014 with the Fort Worth Cats of the United League. He also pitched with Amarillo of the American Association in 2014 and compiled a record of 2-2 with a 1.62 ERA in 8 starts between the two organizations. He struck out 56 batters in 55.2 innings and tossed two complete games with one shutout.
For Starters Game Two...
Chuck Weaver makes his 14th start of the year tonight and his 15th overall appearance. He earned his first professional save on August 2, tossing one inning of shutout ball out of the bullpen to close out an 8-5 win over Washington. His most recent start came against Lake Erie on July 30 as he got the win, going seven and two thirds innings, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out eight in a 4-2 victory. Weaver shined in 2014 as he finished the season with a 2.65 ERA, good for first on the team and fifth in the Frontier League. His notable outings included a career high eight innings of one-run ball against Southern Illinois on June 14, seven innings of one run ball on June 28 against River City, seven innings of shutout ball against Gateway on July 3 and seven innings of shutout ball against Traverse City on August 13. In 17 starts, Weaver went six or more innings 13 times. Weaver was signed by the Freedom in June 2013 after he finished up his collegiate career at IPFW. He had a solid rookie season, posting a 4-2 record with a 3.70 ERA in 14 appearances, 12 starts. The Ft. Wayne, Ind. native started 13 games as a senior for the Mastadons, posting a 2-5 with a 3.57 ERA. Weaver threw two complete games as a senior and pitched 70.2 innings.
