Traverse City Defeats Washington 4-1

TRAVERSE CITY, MI- The Washington Wild Things fell in a close game two of the three-game series against the Traverse City Beach Bums on Wednesday, August 5 at Wuerfel Park by a final score of 4-1. Starter Ernesto Zaragoza went six innings, allowing five hits and striking out five in the Washington loss, while Michael Shreves earned the win for the Beach Bums.

Traverse City got out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI sac fly set up by an Alex Tomasovich triple. Washington answered back in the fourth when Scott Kalamar's single and stolen base set up an RBI single for Sam Mende to tie the game.

The Beach Bums regained their lead in the bottom of the fourth when a single by Yazy Arbelo and a Jeff DeBllieux walk set up a two-run sacrifice fly, giving the Bums a 3-1 advantage. Traverse City never lost the lead for the remainder of the contest, eventually adding another insurance run in the eighth on an RBI single by DeBllieux.

Washington was able to place runners in scoring position in the fifth, seventh, eighth and ninth innings, but Traverse City defended their lead throughout.
