
Evansville Drops Series Opener at Florence 6-1

(FLORENCE, KENTUCKY) - b0 The Evansville Otters began their final road trip of the first half with a 6-1 loss at the Florence Freedom on Friday night.
First baseman Nick Schwaner went 2-for-3 with a home run in the loss as outfielder Runey Davis and infielder Steve Marino both collected two hits as well.
The Freedom came out with one run in the first, two more in the third and another run in the fifth inning to set the pace.
Down 5-0, Evansville tried to rally back against Florence right-hander Sean Gregory, who stranded multiple runners on base in the each of the middle three innings.
Florence added another run in the seventh, and Schwaner hit a solo home run in the eighth for Evansville.
The Freedom would go on to win the game 6-1, their fourth victory in a row.
Florence is now 27-19 this season as Evansville is 19-27.
Gregory (4-3) earns the win in the complete game performance where he allowed just one run. The loss goes to Evansville left-hander Garrett Bullock (2-5) who surrendered five runs in 7.0 innings.
The teams will meet again on Saturday night at the Home of the Florence Freedom. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. EDT as Evansville will have lefty Matt Crim (0-6, 4.19 ERA) on the mound against right-hander Daniel DeSimone (2-4, 4.59 ERA).
