
Miners Drop Opener to Crushers

Avon, OH - The Southern Illinois Miners dropped the series opener to the Lake Erie Crushers 5-2. Miners starter Brian Fowler lasted six innings in his start. He gave up ten hits and allowed three runs. He walked one batter and struck out two.
The Miners got on the board first in the top of the fourth inning off Crushers starter Alex Loftin. After Jake Kaase led off with a single, Chad Maddox moved him over to third with a double. With both runners on, Carlos Mendez hit a two RBI base hit to give the Miners a 2-0 lead. The Crushers came right back in the bottom of the fourth and tied the game at two when second baseman J.C. Figueroa hit a two run double off Fowler.
The Crushers took the lead off Fowler in the bottom of the sixth inning when Crushers catcher Brian Erie hit a RBI double to give the Crushers a 3-2 lead. Crushers starter Alex pitched six innings in his start against the Miners only giving up two runs.
The Crushers added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning off Miners reliever Ross Davis when Brian Erie hit a one out single to right field, but an error by Chad Maddox allowed Daniel Bowman to score and move Erie to third base. Crushers third baseman Brandon Decker hit a base hit and RBI to bring in Erie to give the Crushers a 5-2 lead. Lake Erie wont he game 5-2.
With the loss, the Miners fall to 27-19 on the season. The Miners and Crushers will get underway at 6:05 pm. The Heartland Regional Medical Pregame Show on the Miners Radio Network with Mike Ventola will get underway at 5:45 pm.
