Evansville Otters News Release
(TRAVERSE CITY, MI) --- Evansville started their road trip at Traverse City with an 18-4 loss to the Beach Bums on Friday night.
Evansville struck early for a two run top of the first inning against starter David Deminsky. The newest Otter, shortstop Luis Parache, hit an RBI single for the 1-0 edge and outfielder Nick Schwaner followed with a sacrifice fly for the two run lead.
Traverse City would climb back with a run in the second and then four more runs in the fourth against Michigan native and Evansville starting pitcher Bryce Morrow.
Down 4-2, the Otters notched another run in the sixth on a Schwaner ground rule double but it was Traverse City the rest of the way. The Beach Bums tallied five runs in the sixth and another eight runs in the seventh on their way to the win.
The Traverse City Beach Bums are now 12-7 this season as Evansville slips to 7-12.
David Deminsky (2-1) is the winning pitcher after giving up just three runs in 5 1/3 innings. The loss goes to Bryce Morrow (2-2) who surrendered five runs (four earned) in 3 1/3 innings pitched.
The Otters will look to tie up the series tomorrow night in the middle game of the weekend set at Wuerfel Park. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. as left-hander Matt Zielinski (2-1, 3.63 earned run average) will start for Evansville and he will be opposed by newly-signed righty Cory Baker.
Evansville will return home next Thursday when they open a three game series with the London Rippers. Bosse Field will again host Thirsty Thursday, with $1 draft beer. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling the Box Office at (812) 435-8686.
