Gateway Grizzlies News Release

AVON, OH - The Gateway Grizzlies jumped out to an early three-run lead and held on for a 3-2 victory Friday night against the Lake Erie Crushers at All Pro Freight Stadium. The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the Grizzlies.

Gateway (8-11) got the scoring started in the third inning. Justin Dunning led off with a walk and Jonathan Johnson followed with a bunt single. After Richie Jimenez Jr. popped out, John Shelby drove in Dunning and Johnson to give the Grizzlies an early 2-0 lead.

Antone DeJesus was hit by a pitch to start the fourth and he advanced to third on a Dunning ground-rule double. Johnson brought DeJesus home on an RBI groundout to give the Grizzlies a three-run lead.

Lake Erie (7-12) did all of their scoring in the fifth off Grizzlies starter, Alex Kaminsky (4-0). Adrian Ortiz picked up an RBI groundout and Andrew Davis collected an RBI double to make it a one-run game.

Kaminsky picked up his league-leading fourth win of the season. The Fostoria, OH native, pitching only 90 miles away from his hometown, went seven innings and gave up only two runs while scattering seven hits.

Gateway's bullpen did the rest. Phillip Reamy and Logan Mahon combined to pitch a scoreless eighth, while Richard Barrett struck out the side in the ninth to notch his second save of the season.

Vladimir Frias paced the Grizzlies offense with his second straight multi-hit game.

The Grizzlies and Crushers resume their three game series on Saturday night at All Pro Freight Stadium. Right-hander Patrick Arnold (0-0) makes his second start of the season for Gateway. First pitch is set for 7:05 EST.
