River City Rascals News Release
Schaumburg, Ill. - The Rascals put together one of their most complete games on Friday night against the Boomers, scoring 12 runs on 15 hits while starter Tony Marsala threw seven strong innings as Schaumburg mustered just five hits and three runs on the night.
River City (14-5) broke open a scoreless game in the fourth with three straight hits, and five in the inning, to take a 5-0 lead behind a double from Josh Workman and a two-run single from Gerardo Avila.
The Boomers (11-8) answered with a run in the fourth but it was River City who took back the momentum a half-inning later, plating three more runs on three hits. The leadoff double from Jeremy Synan was followed by two walks before Chris Andreas drove in two of his four on the night with a single and Avila followed with an RBI hit, his sixth-straight at-bat with a single, to stretch the lead to 8-1.
The Rascals added two more runs in the sixth with Workman triple and Andreas sacrifice fly to make it 10-1. River City added two runs in the eighth while the Boomers plated a single run in the seventh and ninth for the final of 12-3.
The Rascals are back in action tomorrow night with first pitch set for 6:05 CT. Keli'i Zablan (2-0, 1.88) takes the mound for River City against lefty Jose Rodriguez (1-1, 6.14).
