Normal CornBelters News Release
WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, mustered only four hits as they fell to the Washington Wild Things 5-0 on Friday night at CONSOL Energy Park.
The Wild Things quickly took a 4-0 lead in the first inning, fueled by two CornBelters errors and an RBI double from Robbie Garvey and a two-run homer from Tim Leary. The Wild Things added a run in the third when a leadoff walk to Doug Thennis scored on a double by Shain Stoner. The walk ended the night for Normal starter Tyler Lavigne, who completed only two-plus innings.
Tyler Lavigne (1-1) took the loss, while Chris Smith (1-2) earned the win with a complete-game four-hitter in which he faced just five batters over the minimum.
The CornBelters send left-hander Jacob Liedka to the mound (0-1, 4.50 ERA) for Saturday's contest against the Wild Things. Pre-game begins at 5:50 p.m. on WJBC.com with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
