Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

Infielder Dee Gordon rejoins the Albuquerque Isotopes today, August 18, after being optioned by the Los Angeles Dodgers on August 16. In a corresponding move, catcher Damaso Espino was placed on the disabled list with a right calf strain.

Gordon appeared in six games after being recalled on Aug. 5, hitting 357 (5-for-14) with a stolen base. The Dodgers won all six of those games. Overall, Gordon is hitting .208 (16-for-77) in 25 games for Los Angeles this season.

The Isotopes shortstop hit safely in his last 17 games with Albuquerque, establishing a 2013 Isotopes season high, before his August 5 call-up. He has batted .366 (26-for-71) since July 14, and overall is batting .307 with a Pacific Coast League-leading 44 steals to go along with 16 doubles, eight triples and a .398 on-base percentage in 80 games.

Espino was originally placed on the disabled list on August 2 with a right calf strain and activated on August 16. Espino, 30, has played 17 games for Albuquerque, starting 16 games at catcher tossing out seven of 21 potential base stealers (33%). The backstop is hitting .321 (18-for-56) with five doubles and four RBI since joining the Isotopes on June 23. Espino was signed by the Dodgers as a free agent after beginning the season with the Chicago White Sox Triple-A affiliate, the Charlotte Knights.

Game three of the five-game series is tonight. Matt Palmer will toe the rubber for Albuquerque. Asher Wojciechowski will start for Oklahoma City. All the action can be heard on 610 "The Sports Animal" with Josh Suchon on the call. Coverage begins at 4:35 Mountain Time and first pitch at 5:05.
