Tacoma Rainiers News Release
TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers suffered a 5-2 loss to the Colorado Springs Sky Sox at Cheney Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Sky Sox took the lead for good after tallying three runs in the top of the third inning. First baseman Ben Paulsen hit a three-run home run with two outs that gave Colorado Springs a 3-0 advantage.
A fielding error at second base committed by Ty Kelly and a wild pitch thrown by pitcher Andrew Carraway allowed the Sky Sox to stretch Tacoma's deficit to 5-0 in the fifth inning before the Rainiers made their first appearance onto the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth.
First baseman Nate Tenbrink hit an RBI single that plated Jesus Sucre with two outs to mark the Rainiers first run. A fielding error committed by shortstop Andrew Garcia allowed Joe Dunigan to score in Tacoma's next at-bat.
Starter Andrew Carraway was dealt the loss after surrendering five runs - three earned - on six hits over six innings. The right-hander struck out six and walked two in his 19th start with the Rainiers this season.
Relievers Tom Wilhelmsen (2.0 IP) and Chance Ruffin (1.0 IP) combined to hold Colorado Springs scoreless on two hits and struck out four over three combined innings of work out of the bullpen.
The Rainiers (68-61) play the fourth game of a five-game series with Colorado Springs (62-64) at 7 p.m. tomorrow, August 19. Right-hander Hector Noesi (3-2, 6.75) is scheduled to start for Tacoma against Sky Sox right-hander Collin McHugh (2-1, 4.15).
