
Omaha Sends Memphis to Sixth Straight Defeat

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A five-run scoring rally by the division-rival Omaha Storm Chasers sent the Memphis Redbirds to a 5-2 loss and their sixth straight loss on Sunday night in front of 10,523 fans at AutoZone Park.
With the loss, Memphis (60-69) has now dropped six straight and trail Omaha by five games in the PCL American Northern Division with 15 games to play.
First baseman Brock Peterson went 2-for-4 with a two RBIs and a triple, which was Memphis lone extra-base hit of the evening and first in four games. Mike O'Neill also added a hit, walk and one run scored.
The Redbirds stranded eight baserunners and went 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position, which gave the club its only two runs in the third frame. With O'Neill and Chris Sawauger on second and third with two outs, Peterson ripped a two-run single up the middle to score for his team-leading 75th RBI.
Martinez was dealing through the first four innings before exiting without retiring a batter in the fifth. Omaha batted around and plated all five runs against Martinez as the first seven Omaha batters reached. Ben Broussard and Brian Fletcher ripped consecutive two-run doubles to give Omaha a 4-2 advantage and remove Martinez from the game, followed by an Brett Hayes RBI single off reliever Jorge Rondon.
Martinez (5-3) finished his evening with a season-high five runs in four-plus innings, facing five batters in the fifth inning before departing. The right-hander struck out six, walked three, hit a career-high three batters, and balked once.
Deryk Hooker struck out two over two scoreless innings before Sam Freeman hurled perfect ninth.
Kansas City rehabber Felipe Paulino gave up two runs on two hits with four walks while fanning six in 3 2/3 innings. Justin Marks (6-12) followed with 5 1/3 shutout innings with seven strikeouts for the win.
The Redbirds and Storm Chasers continue their series at 7:05 pm CT on Monday night at AutoZone Park. Left-hander Nick Greenwood will start for Memphis against Kansas City pitching prospect and Omaha right-hander Yordano Ventura (5-3, 3.26).
