Esks trade Terry Vaughn and draft pick for Al\'s Loftus

(Edmonton) – The Edmonton Eskimos have traded slot back Terry Vaughn and their sixth round selection (49th overall) in the 2005 Canadian College Draft to the Montreal Alouettes for safety William Loftus.

Vaughn, who signed with Edmonton in 1999 after four seasons in Calgary ('95-'98), leaves second on the Eskimos' career receiving list with 545 receptions and 7681 yards. He is also the Eskimo record holder or is tied in numerous categories including receptions in a season (106), consecutive seasons with 1000+ receiving yards (6), and receiving yards in a game (275).

In 2004, Vaughn led the Eskimos with 78 receptions and was second in receiving yards with 1062 and added two touchdowns. He also set a new CFL standard in 2004 going over the 1000-yard receiving mark for the 10th consecutive year.

Loftus, a 7-year CFL veteran was the Alouettes' third round choice (18th overall) in the 1998 Canadian College draft. The Vancouver, B.C. native turns 30 in June and has appeared in 111 games chalking-up 164 defensive tackles, 74 special teams tackles and eight interceptions. While at the University of Manitoba, Loftus was named All-Canadian in 1995 and was selected to the CWUAA (Canada West) All-Star team from 1994 to 1996.
