Riders pick three in first round of CFL Draft

Head coach Danny Barrett is pleased to announce the Saskatchewan Roughriders have used their first draft selection (3rd overall) to select offensive lineman Matt O'Meara from McMaster. The Riders then selected Duke offensive lineman Chris Best with the 4th overall selection. They also took Regina product and University of Saskatchewan all-star slotback Nathan Hoffart with the 7th overall pick.

Matt O'Meara has spent the past four seasons with the McMaster Marauders. Last year, the 22-year old was named to the OUA First All-Star team. O'Meara was the leader of the offensive line that allowed Hec Crighton winner Jesse Lumsden to set a CIS rushing record with 1,816 yards last season.

Chris Best has spent the past four years at Duke University. The 22-year old dressed in 11 games at guard and tackle for the Blue-Devils last season. Best was also named to the Academic Honour Roll last year.

Nathan Hoffart has spent the past three seasons as a member of the University of Saskatchewan Huskies. The 22-year old dressed in nine games last season and had 16 receptions for 403 yards and four touchdowns. Hoffart played in the 2004 CIS East West Bowl and was named the Huskies 2004 Most Valuable Player.
