May 2, 2010 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Edmonton Elks News Release
(Edmonton) It was a day of trades for the Edmonton Eskimos as they conclude the 2010 installment of the CFL Canadian Draft. Eskimo football operations brass was hard at work earlier today as they traded their 9th and 22nd overall selections to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in exchange for a first round selection (6th overall). The moves didn't end there as they traded their 19th and 27th overall picks to Hamilton in exchange for the 12th overall selection. The Green and Gold followed the first two picks up with a fifth (35th overall) and sixth (43rd overall) round selection.
"We are very pleased with this year's draft," says Eskimo General Manager and Director of Football Operations Danny Maciocia. "We went into the draft with the mindset of quality over quantity and we achieved that goal. We addressed many of our needs in the past several hours. The overall feeling is a good one and we look forward to see what these young men will contribute to the team."
2nd Round Selection (6th overall) -Brian Bulcke (DT): In 35 games (9 starts) with the Stanford University Cardinals, Bulcke has accumulated 74 defensive tackles, five tackles for losses, five quarterback sacks and one fumble recovery over the past four years. The Windsor, Ontario native missed the majority of the 2009 season with a wrist injury but still has a year of college eligibility left to help develop his skill for 2011.
3rd Round Selection (12th overall) - Saleem Borhot (DB): The St. Mary's product recorded 19 defensive tackles, three pass knockdowns, two interceptions for 47 yards and one fumble recovery in eight games in 2009. The Alberta native was a member of the CJFL's Okanagan Suns before joining the Huskies.
5th Round Selection (35th overall) - Scott Ferguson (OL): Started in all 11 games for the St. Cloud State University Huskies. The 6'6", 330 lbs three-year starter was named to the First Team All-NSIC North Division Football squad in 2008.
6th Round Selection (43rd overall) - Corbin Sharun (DB): The Edmonton native spent 2009 with the Edmonton Wildcats of the Canadian Junior Football League. He was named a 2009 CJFL All-Canadian. He ended the season with 25 defensive tackles, five interceptions for 129 yards and a touchdown and one fumble recovery. Sharun played a big role in the Wildcats victory in the 2009 Prairie Football Conference Final as he recorded three defensive tackles, one interception for 12 yards and one pass knockdown. He previously played quarterback at St. Francis Xavier University (2006-2007).
